  Ruby is mainly sourced from India, Afghanistan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Myanmar (Burma) and Africa. Burmese Ruby is the most precious and expensive Ruby because of its exceptional color similar to that of pigeon’s blood.

• Color

  Ruby stones are primarily red in color but most stones exhibit a range of secondary hues i.e. orange, purple, violet and pink. Rubies with a pure red color are more desirable and valuable than Ruby stones with secondary undertones. Ruby stones with a vivid pigeon blood red color are the most sought after and expensive. The most important point to be noted is that color should be natural and not artificially enhanced.

So, low quality stones are often treated to enhance their color and improve their clarity.
